Visit to SERIS at CleanTech One

Visited SERIS (Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore) off-campus facility at the CleanTech One building. This facility houses the PV Module Development and Testing laboratories. Interesting to see a lot of applied engineering, rather different from the deep research of R & D that universities are geared for.
A welcome presentation by Dr Thomas Reindl, Deputy CEO. SERIS work is well recognised globally with a world-class certification laboratory rating. A long tour of their labs with many testing booths, some rather huge. I was interested in their solar panel recycling and learnt that one method for delamination was to use the effects of implosion underwater as a means to delaminate the plastics from the glass substrate. And of course, we saw the various recovered materials from solar panels.
This is good, as seeing how solar panel installation has grown almost exponentially. Be prepared!.
All in all, a very fruitful visit. Well arranged by Ms Tan Mui Koon.
