Envcares Eco Impact Network visits Virogreen, an e-wastes recycler

The practical aspects of the recycling industry are generally NOT well known to the general public or even professionals in the Sustainability sector. Going beyond talking is essential. More than just imparting knowledge of the recycling industry, it is crucial to bring such activities to the public.

Envcares with its recently started Envcares Eco Network will arrange access and site visits to its members to see how the recycling industry actually works.

We had our inaugural visit to e-waste recycling centre of Virogreen Pte Ltd Singapore. https://www.virogreen.net/
ViroGreen bins around Singapore  provides e-waste recycling, computer recycling, and data destruction services to commercial clients.
22 of our network members visited Virogreens Tuas facility on 13 Jan 2025. Hosted by@vincentquak, the visit was a real eye opener.

Some of the things to be mindful of:

  • documentation and procedures are important aspects of e-waste recycling.
  • this is crucial for data protection devices/components carrying data.
  • although there is much mechanical deconstruction of parts, other procedures such as degaussing, shredding are also needed. Recovering materials also requires a water treatment process. Lets look at some photos. We also had a lot of insightful snippets of information about the challenges of e-wastes recycling.

Overall, I would say it was a great practical learning lesson
Due to high level of interest, Virogreen has consented to another visit by Envcares Eco Network in Feb 2025.
