While its very good to build experiences through hands on activities, such opportunities may not arise so the next best thing is to learn from the best in horizontal infrastructure development. Samwoh Corporation founded 50 years ago has undergone significant growth (just like Singapore).
Samwoh Smart Hub is considered Singapore’s first “positive energy building,” i.e generating more energy than it consumes. Using a variety of passive and active systems, it features among others, double glazed windows, enclosed chiller units, use of Jurong Rock Cavern rocks, granite fines. It is also a living lab for a wide variety of asphalt mix.
Its gallery was amazing showing various means of valorizing waste materials. The detailed cross sections of different types of road structures attracted lots of attention and questions. Was impressed by the large in-house Singlass certified materials laboratory. We went into overtime. Well organized by Lim Wee Fong and his team from the Sustainability and Innovation Department.
