Visit to the Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm – Singapore’s first floating solar farm
21 July2025.
Envcares Eco Impact Network visit Singapore’s first floating solar farm – The Sembcorp Tengeh Floating Solar Farm.
Let’s harvest sunshine. It’s huge. 45 hectares with a generating capacity of 60MWp with the capacity to power 16,000 4-room HDB apartments.
Warmly welcomed by Jerrine Lim. Opened 14 July 2021, it has placed Singapore upfront and centre of the solar world along with the applied engineering applied R & D at Clean Tec Park where our Solar research teams are working on transformational work, bringing various technologies for implementation in Singapore.
Floating solar presents a number of challenges, not just to keep the panels floating but having to content with bird poop on the panels! Glad to see and learn the practicalities of floating solar and maintaining an environment that takes nature into account.
There was much discussion about the impact of large solar farms on the local biodiversity and glad to hear that there were no negative impacts.
Due to the location at Tengeh, most of us had little stories about how we got to the location – for good chatting and bonding amidst the sustainability learning.
Before going, check out the virtual tour here. It’s good.
